SESSION OVERVIEW
Session 35 opened in the immediate aftermath of Kareem Simbel’s catastrophic break with reality. General Haziz Simbel lay mortally wounded, the underground dining chamber was collapsing, and the magical explosion unleashed by Kareem had scattered the heroes through the rooms beneath it. Worse, the blast had carried something of Kareem with it. His thoughts, memories, fears, and delusions flooded outward in a psychic kaleidoscope, infecting the military base with his increasingly fractured perception of reality.
The
heroes quickly discovered that Kareem’s madness had been worsening since the
Alexandrian Storm. His suppression of the surrounding ley lines was not merely
environmental. He had been actively drawing upon and choking off the local flow
of magic. Tariq broke that control with the Pharaoh’s Cloak, allowing magic to
begin returning while Michael forced enough healing through Kareem’s defenses
to keep General Simbel alive. Rana then carried the General from the collapsing
structure and, once her full abilities returned, overcame the otherwise
incurable nature of Kareem’s wounds.
But
Kareem escaped.
With
the base descending into confusion, the party made a dangerous choice. Rather
than retreat, they exploited the temporary restoration of magic and returned to
the second Seal and the enormous underground repository containing artifacts
believed to have survived the Library of Alexandria. There, divine guidance
transformed their search. Rana’s prayer to Ra revealed the struggle beneath the
mortal conflict: the darkness, chaos, and madness surrounding Kareem bore the
influence of Apep, the ancient
enemy of Ra.
The
Light answered.
Rana
discovered the long-sought funerary map system capable of revealing the
locations of ancient temples. Tariq found physical proof that the Mansour
bloodline stretches directly into Egypt’s earliest pharaonic history. David
flooded the subterranean repository with the light of Ra, revealing both
Kareem’s defenses and the deeper supernatural war surrounding him.
The
heroes escaped with their discoveries, but victory came with an ugly final
revelation.
General
Simbel disappeared from the military hospital.
THE STORY SO FAR
The
previous session ended beneath Borg El Arab after the heroes discovered the
second Great Seal and the massive repository hidden below General Simbel’s
military complex. The expedition had finally brought Rana within reach of the
ancient maps she believed could identify the lost temples and, eventually, the
bloodlines from which their priests must emerge. Tariq likewise suspected that
the collection might contain artifacts connected to the ancient Mansour
lineage.
Then
the situation collapsed.
Kareem
Simbel revealed that he had been suppressing magic throughout the surrounding
region. When General Simbel attempted to intervene, Kareem turned on his own
father, driving a weapon through him as the party’s access to the ley lines
vanished.
Session
35 began seconds later.
MAJOR EVENTS & KEY MOMENTS
1. THE AFTERSHOCK
The
magical explosion scattered the heroes into separate rooms beneath the
destroyed dining chamber. For a moment, physical destruction was almost
secondary.
Kareem’s
psyche had burst outward with the magic.
Each
hero experienced a chaotic flood of memories, emotions, and distorted images.
Through Arcane Lore, research, True Speech, medicine, and other disciplines,
the group managed to decipher enough of the psychic barrage to understand what
they were witnessing.
Kareem was profoundly mentally unwell.
More
importantly, the heroes concluded that his condition had significantly worsened
after the Alexandrian Storm. Whatever instability may have existed beforehand
had become something vastly more severe. His fractured mind was now being
broadcast across the base.
2. THE RITE OF THE CENTERED MIND HOLDS
The
party’s earlier Rite of the Centered
Mind proved invaluable.
Every
member resisted the worst effects of Kareem’s psychic broadcast. Ordinary
personnel throughout the complex were unlikely to fare nearly as well. The
heroes realized that anyone without comparable defenses could be overwhelmed by
the flood of alien thoughts and emotions. The base was about to become very
dangerous.
3. STEALING FIRE FROM THE EXPLOSION
The
blast contained an enormous amount of magical energy. Several heroes managed to seize fragments of
that power before it dissipated, temporarily restoring part of their abilities
despite Kareem’s suppression of the ley lines. Magical items also began
recovering charge.
For
the first time since entering Kareem’s field, the heroes had something to fight
back with.
4. RANA RETURNS TO THE GENERAL
Rana
immediately raced back toward the ruined dining chamber. She activated her
phone camera before confronting Kareem, ensuring that whatever happened next
would have a record.
Kareem
remained beside his father, repeating that the wounded man was not really
General Simbel.
Rana
demanded that he lower his defenses and allow her to save him. Kareem refused.
He
insisted that the heroes had somehow replaced or manipulated his father. Then
he discarded the dying General.
5. KAREEM REWRITES REALITY
The
psychic images spreading across the base revealed something more disturbing
than simple confusion. Kareem was constructing an alternate version of what had
happened.
In
his perception, the heroes had infiltrated the base, mentally manipulated
General Simbel, and exposed themselves as a security threat. Kareem was not
broadcasting himself murdering his father. He was broadcasting himself
defending the base from hostile infiltrators.
The
heroes could decipher the truth because they had resisted his mental assault. The
soldiers receiving the broadcast might not be so fortunate.
6. MICHAEL BECOMES THE GENERAL
Michael attempted something audacious. Using his amulet, he assumed General Simbel’s appearance and confronted Kareem as his father. He told Kareem that what he had witnessed was grief, not betrayal, and pleaded with him to recognize that the wounded man on the floor was still his father.
Then
Michael dropped the illusion and acted.
7. THE EYE OF HORUS SAVES SIMBEL
Michael
used the Eye of Horus to heal
General Simbel.
Kareem
had surrounded his father with an energy barrier, forcing Michael to expend
additional magical resources to penetrate it. The healing could not undo
everything. But it repaired the catastrophic damage to Simbel’s heart. The
General went from mortal danger to critical condition.
For
the moment, he would live.
8. TARIQ BREAKS KAREEM’S GRIP ON THE
LEY LINES
Tariq
targeted the source of Kareem’s magical suppression. Using the Pharaoh’s Cloak
and its nullifying power, he struck at Kareem’s control over the surrounding
magic.
The
effect succeeded. The ley lines immediately began filling again.
The
heroes finally understood what Kareem had been doing: he was actively drawing
upon the local magical environment and preventing others from accessing it.
His
control had been broken. Magic began returning.
9. KAREEM ESCAPES
Kareem
retaliated against Rana and Michael. Blades flew toward Michael while a strange
ray struck at Rana. Both survived the attacks. Then Kareem vanished. Rana’s
True Seeing confirmed that he had not merely turned invisible. He was gone.
10. THE BASE SOUNDS THE ALARM
A
lone siren began sounding. The heroes realized someone on the base had
successfully deciphered Kareem’s psychic broadcast well enough to understand
that something was terribly wrong. Tariq reached outward telepathically and
found him.
The
soldier possessed animal-transforming abilities, and his enhanced senses had
helped him resist the mental chaos. His conclusion was simple: Something was
wrong with the Colonel.
Tariq
mentally compelled him to silence the alarm and later directed him to search
for Kareem himself.
11. ESCAPE FROM THE COLLAPSE
The
heroes regrouped while the underground structure continued failing.
Rana
used her biokinetic abilities to move General Simbel without jostling his
injuries. David located an open route through the damaged structure. Michael
teleported Yusuf and Deuce through the debris.
Within
moments, everyone had escaped. Around them, Borg El Arab was in chaos.
Soldiers
stumbled through the compound clutching their heads. Personnel argued over
conflicting perceptions. Some had injured themselves simply reacting to
Kareem’s mental broadcast.
Tariq
used his psychic abilities on a massive scale to calm the emotions of the base.
The
madness did not disappear but the panic began to subside.
12. KAREEM’S WOUNDS WILL NOT HEAL
Rana
attempted to finish healing General Simbel and something resisted her.
The
injuries inflicted by Kareem had a supernatural quality that prevented ordinary
magical healing. Rana responded by temporarily restoring the Persistent capability of her healing
powers, allowing her to overcome otherwise incurable damage.
The
General began improving dramatically. Kareem had nearly murdered his father. Rana
refused to let the wound finish the job.
13. THE GENERAL GOES TO THE INFIRMARY
Red warning lights began illuminating the compound. The party divided responsibilities.
Rana
and Michael transported General Simbel directly to the base’s primary medical
facility. The staff saw Rana deliver him, and she made it clear that she had
healed him but that he still required medical treatment. Then Rana and Michael
disappeared. General Simbel was alive.
The
rest of the party had another problem.
14. THE SECOND SEAL
With
Kareem’s suppression temporarily broken, the heroes realized they had an
opportunity that might never come again.
They
teleported back to the chamber containing the second Great Seal and the
entrance to the Library of Alexandria repository. Personnel there were
recovering from Kareem’s psychic assault.
Among
them was Viara Nearcos, who had
regained enough control to shut down dangerous equipment and stabilize the
area. Tariq told her the truth. Kareem’s mind had broken.
When
Tariq asked where Kareem would go, she gave the most likely answer: The control
tower.
From
there, he could activate the base’s security systems and military droids. Almost
on cue, dormant machines began coming online.
15. THREE OBJECTIVES
The
party divided its attention. Rana would search for the ancient maps. Tariq
would study the Great Seal before descending into the repository to search for
evidence of the Mansour bloodline. Michael would interfere with the base’s
electronic security. Yusuf divided himself again to provide protection and
support. David entered the repository with Rana, where an entirely different
mystery awaited.
16. THE HISTORY BEFORE HISTORY
Tariq
examined the Great Seal. Its carvings resembled a vast historical timeline.
Some portions depicted events from before Egypt’s recognized pharaonic history.
Giants appeared among its imagery. Fantastical creatures were represented without explanation, as though their existence had been so ordinary to the Seal’s creators that explanation was unnecessary. The Seal was not merely symbolic. It appeared to preserve a history humanity had forgotten. Tariq photographed and recorded as much of it as possible for later study.
17. DESCENT BY SANDSTORM
Rana
and Yusuf decided to experiment. Yusuf transformed into sand. Rana became air.
Together
they descended into the repository as a miniature sandstorm before reforming
below.
It
was ridiculous. It also worked perfectly.
18. THE LIBRARY AWAKENS
The
repository was completely different with magic restored.
Objects
that had previously been hidden in darkness now glowed with magical light.
Reflective surfaces produced strange projections and phantasms. Ancient objects
illuminated entire sections of the cavernous chamber.
The
scale of the collection became apparent. This was not a storeroom. It was an
underground world of forgotten history.
19. THE ACTIVE SUMMONING CIRCLE
David
discovered that the pentagram previously observed within the repository was now
active.
It
was not a containment circle. It was a summoning
circle. Nearby figures stood within pillars of magical light, their
forms stretching and flickering so violently that their identities could not be
determined. For an Arcane Knight, the discovery was extraordinary. This was not
theoretical ancient magic. It was functioning.
20. MICHAEL BLINDS THE CAMERAS
Michael
began attacking the base’s surveillance network. He successfully disabled
unarmed cameras throughout the complex. Armed systems proved harder to
compromise. That distinction would become important very shortly.
21. RANA ASKS RA FOR GUIDANCE
Faced
with an enormous repository and almost no time, Rana prayed.The answer came
through realization. The darkness surrounding the collection, Kareem’s madness,
the chaos consuming the base, and the strange magical events all pointed toward
one ancient enemy.
Apep. The embodiment of chaos, darkness, and nonexistence. The
eternal enemy of Ra.
The
confrontation was no longer merely Rana and her companions against Kareem
Simbel. On another level, the ancient struggle between Ra and Apep was playing out through them.
22. THE PATH OF LIGHT
Rana
recognized that the glowing magical objects formed a path. Ra was guiding her.
Following the light at extraordinary speed The Cartograph of Ra, she reached a funerary installation built around a gem designed to capture sunlight and project it across a burial chamber.

Beneath it rested a sealed funerary chest. The system was designed to project maps stored within that chest. Rana had found what she came for. The ancient maps.
23. “I KNEW YOU WOULDN’T BE ABLE TO
RESIST.”
Kareem’s
voice came from the darkness. He had never gone to the control tower.
His
droid had.
Kareem
accused the heroes of using General Simbel merely as a key to gain access to
the repository. In his fractured worldview, their presence proved everything he
believed about them.
They
were power hungry. They had manipulated his father. They wanted the treasures
beneath the base. And now Kareem had them exactly where he wanted them.
24. KAREEM STRIKES AGAIN
Kareem
attempted to sever the heroes from magic again. This time the attack was
targeted rather than environmental. The party resisted the magical suppression,
but the assault carried another component: poison.
Several
heroes resisted outright. Michael proved immune. Others suffered nausea and
debilitating effects. Kareem had evolved his tactics.
25. THE ARMY IN THE DARK
Yusuf
searched the darkness using enhanced senses. Kareem was not alone. Four
military drones waited in the air. Two
armed droids stood nearby. One carried a shoulder-mounted missile system.
And
Kareem himself stood beside a large object concealed beneath a tarp. Whatever
it was, it was roughly the size one might associate with one of the mysterious
mirrors encountered elsewhere.
The
heroes did not know what lay beneath it. Nobody was particularly eager to find
out.
26. DAVID BRINGS THE SUN UNDERGROUND
David responded to darkness with the obvious theological counterargument.
More
light. Using his magic, a temporary mastery of light, consecration, and prayer
to Ra, the Arcane Knight created daylight within the underground repository. Ra
answered.
Every
lamp throughout the enormous chamber ignited with divine light. For the first
time, the repository stood illuminated as though beneath the Egyptian sun. Every
hero received renewed strength from the divine intervention.
And
David heard a message: Their enemy was
revealed when the light went out. The implication was unmistakable. Kareem
was under the influence of Apep.
27. APEP LOOKS BACK
David attempted to sever the supernatural connection between Kareem and Apep.
He
failed. The resistance felt disturbingly similar to attempts to directly oppose
the Master.
Then
David felt something looking at him. Not the Master. Something else.
A
divine gaze from the darkness. But David stood inside the light of Ra. He did
not retreat.
28. MICHAEL BUILDS A LEAD PRISON
Michael
turned his attention toward the concealed object beside Kareem.
Using
the transmutation ability granted through the Scepter of Ra, he transformed surrounding air into lead and
constructed a heavy barrier around the tarp-covered object.
Whatever
Kareem intended to reveal, Michael intended to make the unveiling considerably
more inconvenient.
29. RANA THROWS THE MYSTERY AT KAREEM
Rana
told Kareem that the heroes sought only the power to help those who could not
help themselves. His father had understood that. Kareem apparently would not.
Then
Rana used her biokinetic grasp on the heavy objects surrounding Kareem,
including the concealed object itself, and hurled the entire mass at him. Kareem
survived behind his supernatural protective aura. The tarp was no longer the
heroes’ most immediate problem.
30. THE REPOSITORY BECOMES A
BATTLEFIELD
Drones opened fire. David’s Arcane Blade protected him. Rana absorbed or avoided multiple gunshots.
Other
rounds smashed into priceless objects throughout the repository, leading to the
rather unusual tactical realization that sometimes getting shot personally was
preferable to letting Alexandria’s surviving history take the bullet.
Kareem
moved with unnatural speed, manipulating gravity around himself. He closed on
Rana.
His
attacks still could not bring her down.
31. THE ROD OF COMMAND FINDS ITS ANSWER
Tariq
entered the illuminated repository and attacked Kareem with a stone spear
created through the Rod of Command.
The attack missed. But the spear possessed a homing quality.
And
something about where the stone spear traveled told Tariq that the items he sought
was nearby, so he followed the spear’s trajectory.
32. THE PHARAONIC ASSEMBLAGE OF DEN
Encased
in amber, Tariq discovered something extraordinary.
The
Holy Pharaonic Assemblage of Pharaoh
Den.
These
were not merely ancient clothes. They were courtly vestments of rulership, garments
associated with the office and authority of one of Egypt’s earliest pharaohs.
Beside
Den’s assemblage rested the corresponding garments of his wife, identified in
the session as Seshemetka, also
referred to as Semat. Tariq had
found physical evidence linking his family to the ancient pharaonic world.
33. THE EYE OF WADJET VERSUS KAREEM
Yusuf
reformed and unleashed repeated blasts from the Eye of Wadjet. All three attacks struck.
One
was an exceptional hit. None penetrated Kareem’s protective aura.
The
Colonel’s supernatural defenses were becoming one of the defining problems of
the battle.
34. MICHAEL TURNS THE MACHINES AGAINST
THEMSELVES
Michael
attacked the military systems rather than Kareem.
Using
his analytical abilities, codes, ciphers, and data link, he rewrote the drones’
identification systems. The machines began recognizing one another as hostile
targets and they opened fire on each other. The armed droids became confused
tracking the suddenly contradictory behavior and effectively lost their own
attack cycle. For one precious moment, Kareem’s mechanical army neutralized
itself.
35. THE YELLOW CRYSTALS
Kareem
scattered yellowed crystals throughout the battlefield. The heroes avoided
them.
From
what they could determine, failure would have allowed the crystals to embed
themselves directly into their flesh. Nobody volunteered to discover what
happened afterward.
Then
Kareem vanished again. With their principal opponent gone and the remaining
machines manageable, the battle ended. But everyone felt it. A clock was
running.
36. TARIQ CLAIMS HIS BIRTHRIGHT
Tariq approached the amber containing Den’s assemblage. He prayed to Ra. When he reached into the amber, his hand seemed for an instant to pass through time itself.
The
amber parted. Tariq removed the ancient vestments.
Two
magical wedding rings were also preserved with the assemblage, symbols not
merely of marriage but of rulership and bloodline authority. The artifacts
confirmed something enormous. The Mansour lineage could be traced directly into
the pharaonic bloodline of Den.
More
specifically, Tariq’s line descended through Den’s wife. The artifacts could
only be attuned by someone belonging to that bloodline. Tariq qualified.
37. THE RING OF BLOODLINE AUTHORITY
Tariq
immediately donned the male ring. Its purpose became clear.
Where
the Rod of Command represented authority over subjects and followers, this ring
represented authority within the
bloodline itself. It served as proof of nobility. Proof of rulership.
Proof
that Tariq possessed a legitimate pharaonic lineage.The search for the Mansour
inheritance had produced far more than another artifact. It had produced
evidence.
38. SEVENTEEN MORE PIECES OF HISTORY
The
heroes prepared to evacuate. David summoned his extra-dimensional closet around
Rana’s funerary map installation and its associated chest.With the repository
potentially facing destruction, the group also grabbed whatever additional
artifacts they could safely extract.
Seventeen
additional objects were recovered.Their precise identities remain undetermined
and provide opportunities for later discoveries tied to unresolved campaign
mysteries.
39. RETURN TO THE VEIL
The
heroes teleported away. By approximately 4:00 PM they had returned to the Veil.
The
repeated suppression and restoration of their powers had taken a toll. Even
empowered by the Veil, the group was exhausted.The remainder of Tuesday became
a period of recovery, study, prayer, installation, and investigation.
Rana’s
funerary map apparatus was moved to her temple and positioned so that the
proper divine light could activate its projections.Tariq began the process of
understanding and attuning himself to his newly recovered pharaonic
inheritance.
40. THE GENERAL IS GONE
The
heroes checked on General Simbel. Someone had removed him from the military
hospital. He had been spirited away. Tariq attempted to locate him
telepathically. Something shielded the General from direct contact. Tariq was
able to determine one thing. General Simbel was still alive. Where he had gone,
who had taken him, and why remained unanswered.
CHARACTER SPOTLIGHTS
Rana Al-Masri
Rana
drove the session’s divine narrative. She refused to abandon General Simbel,
overcame Kareem’s otherwise incurable wounds, and successfully delivered the
General to medical care. Her prayer to Ra then transformed the repository
search from blind archaeology into divine guidance.
Most
importantly, Rana recognized that the conflict had expanded beyond Kareem.
Apep’s influence placed her growing role as a servant of Ra inside an ancient
metaphysical struggle.
And
she found the maps.
Tariq Mansour
Tariq
achieved one of the most important personal discoveries of his campaign.
He
broke Kareem’s suppression of the ley lines, calmed the base, investigated the
second Seal, and ultimately found proof of his family’s ancient lineage.
The
Pharaonic Assemblage of Den and its magical ring established a direct
connection between Tariq’s maternal ancestry and one of Egypt’s earliest royal
bloodlines.
Tariq
has spent much of the campaign calling himself Pharaoh. History just became
considerably less amused by the joke.
David Hassan
David
became the spiritual counterweight to Apep’s darkness.
His
invocation of Ra illuminated the entire repository and changed the battlefield.
More significantly, his attempt to sever Kareem from Apep established the
apparent scale of the supernatural force behind the Colonel.
David
felt Apep’s attention. He stood beneath Ra’s light anyway.
Yusuf Khalid
Yusuf
once again demonstrated why being several people is tactically obnoxious in the
best possible way.He provided security across multiple locations, experimented
with his sand form alongside Rana, discovered Kareem’s hidden mechanical
forces, and later landed three consecutive Eye of Wadjet attacks against the
Colonel. The attacks failed to penetrate Kareem’s protection, but Yusuf helped
expose the battlefield before Kareem could spring it completely.
Michael Adeyemi
Michael
repeatedly solved problems sideways.
He
impersonated General Simbel in an attempt to reach Kareem emotionally, saved
the General’s life with the Eye of Horus, disrupted the base surveillance
system, constructed a lead barrier around Kareem’s mysterious concealed object,
and finally rewrote the military drones so they attacked one another.
Michael
also learned that his awakened tablet protected him from Kareem’s poison
effect, a development whose larger significance remains unresolved.
GM NOTES & WORLD NARRATIVE
Kareem
Simbel is no longer merely a hostile military officer with an unusual magical
ability. Session 35 established that his mental deterioration accelerated
following the Alexandrian Storm and that his current condition is intertwined
with the influence of Apep.
The
precise nature of that relationship remains unclear. The session supports
influence or connection, but does not establish whether Kareem is possessed,
consciously serving Apep, being manipulated, or functioning as some other kind
of agent.
The
second Great Seal also became substantially more important. Its carvings appear
to preserve a historical narrative predating conventional pharaonic history,
including representations of giants and other beings treated by its creators as
ordinary components of their world.
The
Library repository likewise contains far more than preserved antiquities.
Active summoning magic, magical projections, unknown figures suspended in
pillars of light, bloodline artifacts, temple records, and numerous
still-uncatalogued objects suggest the collection is effectively an archive of
the forgotten magical world.
LOOT, CLUES & REVEALS
Items Acquired: The Holy Pharaonic Assemblage of Den;
corresponding female courtly assemblage associated with Seshemetka/Semat; two
magical rings of rulership and bloodline authority; Rana’s funerary map
projection apparatus and the chest containing its maps; and seventeen

Clues Found: The second Seal records history from
before recognized pharaonic Egypt. Giants and fantastical creatures appear in
its historical imagery. Kareem’s magical suppression works by interfering with
access to surrounding magical power. Kareem is immune to Tariq’s psychic
abilities. Kareem possesses powerful supernatural protection and can inflict
magically resistant wounds. His attacks also include poison and strange embedding
crystals.
Major Reveals: Kareem appears to be under the
influence of Apep. Ra directly guided Rana toward the maps and answered David’s
invocation of light. Tariq’s maternal bloodline traces directly to the royal
lineage of Pharaoh Den and Seshemetka/Semat. The recovered royal artifacts
recognize that bloodline. Michael’s tablet has awakened further and protected
him from Kareem’s poison. General Simbel survived his wounds but disappeared
from the hospital before the end of Tuesday.

Where is General Simbel? He survived, but someone removed him from the hospital. Tariq believes he remains alive and magically or supernaturally shielded.
