Calim Desert Tribes the Ifrit Clans and the Brown Dragon of Calim

The Jhannivvar

Jhannivvar Nomads/Raiders: Despite the harsh conditions and the unforgiving land, some people choose to live within the desert's confines. Sometimes called raiders (for their attacks on caravans along the Trade Way), the nomads of the Calim Desert migrate and live life similar to horse-lord nomads who keep close to known oasis that are loosely scattered across the desert. These clans consist of native Calishite humans, air siraati Jinnborn, and Slyph who have banded together to ensure their independence from oppression and affluence after the Time of Troubles. They partially support themselves by raiding and by recovering items and lost curios from the desert ruins of more than a dozen lost cities, selling them to others, or haggling them for items they need. All the recovered items are usually noteworthy to sages of history, architecture, or metalwork. The Jhannivvar commonly worship the Moon goddess as well as Shaundkul

The Painted Elves

The Painted Elves: More closely related to wild elves than high elves, painted elves commonly dwell in the northern petrified forests of Faeressar—which in ages past, before the coming of the warring genie lords, were their ancestral homes. The painted elves take their name from the nature of the wastes in which they dwell, but also from their habit of camouflaging themselves with pigments derived from the mineral deposits found in such places. Though they rarely see visitors—since painted deserts and petrified forests offer little in the way of resources—painted elves are extremely distrustful of outsiders, including other elves, and can turn on guests at the slightest provocation. The painted elves revere the Seldarine, but the deity that is held in the highest regard among the painted elves is Darahl Firecloak, the elven god of earth and fire magic.

The Asherati: Asheratis are a geographically established people who live below the sands and dunes of the Calim Desert, rising to the surface to hunt for food; to socialize and trade with other races; or to make war upon their enemies. As merfolk are to the sea, asheratis are to the sands. An asherati might be mistaken for a thin human under some circumstances—at least until the asherati’s rust-red skin begins to glow with a light all its own, or until he dives headlong into the nearest sand dune, disappearing without a trace. Asheratis are also extremely distrustful of outsiders and will attack a Yak Man on sight. Asheratis speak their own language, elven and dragonic. They venerate their own ancestral gods and believe in reincarnation- their spiritual leader is said to be thousands of years old.

The Asherati Pesh traders Ishim, Puriel, and Gadreel gladly trade three forms of the desert cactus drug pesh: Pesh (15 gp), Pesh, black (100 gp), and Pesh, golden (50 gp).

These highly addictive but useful drugs are obtained from these individuals with gems of equivalent value or magic items at half cost. Pesh (7.5 gp), Pesh, black (50 gp), and Pesh, golden (25 gp). The asherati traders do not trade with coin and come every three weeks.

These drugs are often sold in exclusive Calimport clubs or on the back market- often times for twice the value. Pesh (30 gp), Pesh, black (200 gp), Pesh, golden (50 gp).

Ishim, Puriel, and Gadreel also trade in alchemy and pheromones including: alchemical pheromones, aggression (150 gp), arousal (300 gp), simple (1 gp), and susceptibility (300 gp).

Northern Ifrit

Southern Ifrit

The Sons and Daughters of Memnon (the Calim Desert Ifriti): Today's Calim Ifrits are split into two distinct clans defined by their customs, religious beliefs and are also identified by their physical appearance. Each of these clans can have up to 15 - 20 ifrit families. Northern Ifrit clans are gold-eyed humanoids with black skin colorations that renders camouflage in the shimmering heat of the desert. These northern clans have ancient customs, are very spiritual and commonly worship Kossuth

The southern Ifrit clans are also dark-skinned with black, red, auburn or sand colored hair. These clans are more aggressive and commonly raid caravans and smaller towns or outer wards of cities. These southern clans worship the old god Tempus, god of war and champion of the gods. Each clan is a patriarchal tribal society that places royal bloodlines in high importance. The Sultan of the clan is the leader and king of his territory and is said to be a bastard descendant of the great Efreeti Sultan Memnon.

Both clans have, over the years, married sons and daughters of noble families across boundaries to promote better relations between the north and south ifriti.

Two years ago, after the tragedy that befell the royal Khavari family, a rival ifrit clan challenged Sultan Ara's leadership. A noble Ifrit named Sigmis rose to prominence after the Sultan Ara Khavari was dishonored after the actions of members of his family. Sigmis was propelled into focus after Ara's rivals proved Sigmis' linage to Memnon and was thus able to dethrone Ara Khavari.

Brown

Brown dragons, also known as sand or desert dragons, are great barbarous dragons that live under the dunes and desert sands. Naturally these dragons have sand colored scales for camouflage, though unlike other types of dragon their scales are leathery. They have webbed claws for burrowing, a scorpion like stinger tail, and very large, long mouths. Unlike most other types of dragons, brown dragons are wingless- much like the eastern dragons who still have the ability to fly. Brown dragons are an apex species among its kind; both ferocious and intelligent, it will actively hunt down other dragons in its territory. Brown dragons will mate several times and with multiple females throughout its life.

The Brown Dragon of Calim is said to be unique and perhaps the last of its kind after the Time of Troubles. None, save for the Asherati know its true name. The dragon is rumored to lair in a desert ruin known only to Brown and the Asherati whom call the dragon friend.

Letters from the Darkness

Malkarion Brokengulf

Sambar Moonstar- Pastor of the Infinite Dark

All Hail the Dark Mistress!

The Great Castle Discordia has received the last group of Rippers from your Circle last new moon, but unfortunately had to reject one of them. This leaves your sect short by one.

Shaalabhak indicates another dozen Rippers will be required to complete our ultimate goal. A goal I remind you that has been two years in the making. We expect no less than five Rippers from your Circle on schedule.

The first new moon of the year draws near.

Included with this message are ten obsidian shards- pieces of the Night Throne crafted on the Shadowfell by the Dark Ranger. Each of these shards when broken will bring forth a shadow beast. Have your Circle use them at the onset of the First New Moon in the Hook Ward. These beasts are bread to scent out Her enemies.

Shaalabhak’s garrison posted at the Lost Embassy expects to receive more Rippers from your Circle in due course after the new moon.

Darkness protects us, Lady watch us,

Sai Malkarion Brokengulf

Mistress Esvele or Sai Brokengulf, Leaders in Darkness

All Hail the Dark Mistress

We’ve experienced a minor inconvenience at Wraith’s Haven. A rogue undertaker has drawn the attention of a cleric of Selune of House Moonstar and we believe, the known adventurers from Cormyr. The undertaker has been dealt with however, I imagine news of this Moonstar cleric may interest the Dark Ranger

Our Circle has identified several targets for the shadow beasts. Towards that end, our Circle is organizing against the Cormyreans and the clerics at the Lighthouse of Selune.

We have also made contact with and have the cooperation of some of the ancient Calishite Damphir clans, a mercenary group of Crypt Ward Mask followers, and have earned the favor of one Druzir who has two valuable spies in play.

Druzir…
