(Murder In Amphail) The Investigation Begins

The young lieutenant Callam looked to each of the companions gathered in the Stag-Horned Flagon in turn, assessing their valor and honesty. That obviously included the drow, he seemed the most enthusiastic of the group while the dwarf inquired incessantly about the details of the Lord Alougarr’s investigations into the murders, but it was the ranger who balanced the two view points and agreed they would assist in any fight against evil.

“I assure you this it is all hands on deck good dwarf, but if I can persuade you to help patrol the streets or help with the investigations the Lord of the Garrison and I would be in your debt.” Callam said. “I must attend to the curfew announcements, if you would please meet me in an hour.”

Sixty minutes later Balder, Shar, and Hilmar were gathered under a clear night sky with Callam standing near the statue of the Great Shalarn in the middle of town, upon its base was a rough map of Amphail engraved into a bronze plate.

Balder noted that the map was simple, obviously not to scale, and weathered. Another trio of volunteers was in attendance as well, local brothers Loab and Garl Eagleshield, and much to the ire of dwarf War-priest was the half-orc Denaz who paid Balder no heed.

“Gentlemen these are the locations of the murders,” Callam said sullenly as he marked each site with dark wax. “in order, here, here…” With a slight bit of confusion in his speech, Callam transposes the third and fourth murder locations. “Here, here, and here.” The young lieutenant stood after marking the sites looking pained.

“Who are the victims?” Balder asked inquisitively, “Is there any connection among them?”

Callam took a deep breath and composed himself, the three companions could see the weight of these murders under Callam’s watch was taking a toll; the young officer was losing against an unknown foe.

“The first victim was Trauning Tarm, the daughter of one of the most prominent families in Amphail.” Callam began revisiting each point on the bronze map. “She was soon to be wedded off to a merchant family in Waterdeep. The second victim Baloca Ilzimmer, who my sources tell me, was an overweight sloth of a man, known for being a slave master to his children, who work the family stables.”

“Good riddance.” Shar said dryly uncaring of who heard.

“The third victim Jusnile Ammakyl,” Callam continued. “A young girl recently married. She was murdered near her family's farm, which is adjacent to Highmore Tower.”

“It was the husband obviously.” One of the Eagleshield brothers interrupted, Loab or was it Garl?

Balder grunted; murder was never that easy.

“Not so I’m afraid as I will explain,” addressing Garl Eagleshield. “The fourth victim on the map is Kerrlie,” Callam continued in order of incident. “She was an older elven woman held over from the Retreat. She was known for her generosity and kindness around town. Her sons cared for her after the death of her husband, a local merchant who specialized in exotic herbs. The fifth victim was actually the third victim Jusnile Ammakyl’s husband Hannil Ammakyl. He was murdered not far from the spot where his wife was killed leaving behind a family...” Callam finished trailing off, obviously emotionally drained.

“I’m so sorry Callam,” Shar said still trying to abide to human grieving customs. “Mystra guide them to the light. How were they killed?”

Callam looked solemnly at the drow elf, “Now I think would be a good time to take you to last night’s crime scenes.”

Leading them to Horse Pond, a place of miracles during the Time of Troubles Callam continued the investigation with the six volunteers noting how well the dwarf and drow interacted, it was like they were close friends.

"It was right here that the last body was found," Callam stated flatly, not yet hardened to the cold realities of death. He pointed down at a spot in the middle of the street where a still-sticky pool of dark blood remains. Hilmar was quick to point out that the body had been moved, noting a bloody trail that terminated among the day’s foot traffic.

“By the gods you are right.” Callam stated, “That makes two.”

“Two?” Balder asked not missing a beat.

Callam looked to the dwarf, “Two critical differences. In every other murder save for this one the person was killed where they were found.” The young Callam regarded Shar, “and you asked how they were killed?”

To which Shar nodded.

“This victim was stabbed repeatedly in the back and evidence seems now to indicate they had been dragged here. The others victims were flayed ritualistically from palm to palm and up across the neck. All were found face down with their life blood staining the ground, left to bleed.” Callam said clearly agitated.

“And this one what, was left in a heap,” Hilmar confirmed for himself.

“My brother and I will follow the trail of blood and see where it leads.” Garl Eagleshield said volunteering his group to follow up on the outstanding murderer.

Before Balder could protest Shar put a hand on his shoulder and said in dwarven, “If there are cultists at work here, do you not see that as the greater evil?”

“Aye.”

An hour later Callam took Balder, Hilmar, and Shar to the scene of the only other murder that took place last night; here stakes and ropes have been placed into the road around a patch of blood-soaked ground.

“The blood stains the ground in a clear line.” Hilmar observed while Shar scanned the area for magic.

Balder however could sense a strong presence of evil from the center of the roped-off area. Ignoring the stakes marking off the area Balder approached to see a faint red glow of seven points arranged in a circle, with one of the points almost seeming to be two points that overlap each other. Then it was gone.

“The victim’s name was Winnian, about 80 years of age. He was well liked in the community; he commonly told stories to the younger children at the market, while his daughters sold their crops and livestock. His farm actually does not lie far from here. He had two daughters, who are out of town, visiting family.” Callam explained to the trio, but no one was listening because each of the three had discovered separate clues vital to the investigation.

“I sense evil at work,” Balder said cryptically to Callam, his dark eyes reflecting torch light. “These murders are fulfilling a sequence that if allowed to continue will bring about something I don’t think your Lord Alougarr would want.”

05/06/15 Virtues Session 1: Secret Weapons

Kyras
What Kind of Wizards am I With?” Kyras asked worriedly, below the druid was the vastness of the ocean, above him was the flying skiff and spear throwing pirates.

First level ones…” Dramen said laughing as he summoned his eagle.

Wizards who rely on their equipment.” Syrendros said with a wry grin as the drow threw out a bag of marbles at a pirate causing him to plummet hundreds of feet overboard...

Early Morning: Our session began at the beginning of our third week aboard the Overwrought Companion after they had rescued us from an island. It is still unclear if we were shipwrecked on the lsland, but one thing is sure that when we begin all but Rydin Meirdarel had gained their sea-legs. The rest of us, no longer sea/air-sick, were relatively free to wander the Companion where we can appreciate the marvel of the flying ship; the balloons, the seamstresses, and the working lifestyle aboard the Overwrought Companion.

While on the bridge that morning, some of us made nice with Beasley an indentured servant on his last year. He claims that his sister is locked away by an agent of a duke who accepted Beasley for three years to spare his sister’s life. We never found out how the Overwrought Companion and this agent of the Duke are connected.

Half-orc sky-pirates!
As we made small talk, learning we are two-weeks out from our next destination, Tinquai the Strix flew in, landed, and asked for the Captain immediately. After a lot of ship activity we were called to Captain Zilinias’ war meeting with Tinquai, Teneel Marks, Techarius, and other security teams to plan a defense. There are two other flying ships following us- pirates. Each of them appear like raised shipwrecks powered by elemental magic, and Tinquai states that the smaller of the two is armed with burning pitch and is likely a ramming ship.

Food and beverages are provided to us, Beasley and the officers explain that before a battle a meal is served incase supplies are lost. Tinquai reports that he found where the island the pirates come from, an island the Overwrought Companion had flown over before and were waiting for our return trip; they are a half-mile behind us- they will be close enough to attack in two hours. His assessment of the island was that it was densely populated with half-orcs, orcs, ogres and some minotaurs.

We sat patiently listening to Captian Zilinias’ plan: they have a secret weapon in the smaller ramming ship, so too do we have a secret weapon- and with that revelation we understood our job: take out the ramming ship before they attack. The Captain would let us use the ship’s magical belt of Overland Flight (8 hour duration, Oldacia doubles its speed), Beasley steps in for the ailing Rydin, and we are allowed to prepare. Teneel gives us each one CLW potions, a wand of Bless to Kyras, mage armor to Dramen and Syrendross, and other things for Dolgrin. During this time we were all visited with feelings of being watched, Syrendross brings this phenomenon up to his friends and to be wary of scrying.

9 AM.: An hour later we flew out to much cheers and blessings to ‘the one lord.’ We take a half-hour to get used to flying (fly skill unlocked) before we commit to an attack. The first ship turns out to be a yacht-sized flying shipwreck with long poles and spears extended out in front of the ship, these poles supported a wide blue sail that served as camouflage for frontal assaults, the supporting ship(s) trailing behind to hide their numbers.
Dolgrin

Dolgrin spots the trailing ramming ship, a skiff more than a ship it was smaller than its leader holding less than a dozen half-orc pirates, it looked like a shorn off lower half of a ship with four barrels of burning pitch chained together on its flat surface.

Syrendros had a plan. Take crowbars he and Dolgrin have to weaken the floor under the barrels enough that they fall through the floor; even if we failed to stop the ram, it take the fire out of the battle. The plan worked as eagles were summoned, marbles were used, elementals were fought, and a lone half-orc was saved, as we successfully defeated the half-orc pirates’ secret weapon.

The half-orc’s name is Hatleck, he wagered his life for a cache of gold he knows about back on his island. He was soon disappointed however as he realized we were not going to island of densely populated half-orcs but what was worse for him was that he was to be taken to the Overwrought Companion. As Dolgrin, Beasley and Kyras carried Hatleck to the Companion, Dramen and Syrendros separated from them to look for recovered valuables.

Found: +2 bracers of armor, 4 masterwork daggers, 5 masterwork leather armor and skullcap-goggles
(bomber jackets and goggles), 3 light crossbows, 5 tanglefoot bags, 5 antitoxins and as many javelins and spears the two of us could carry.

After an hour of flying back we find the Overwrought Companion, just as the other pirate ship was in full retreat (with an 800’ burst of speed).

The battle was followed by congratulations and revelry; the Captain assures us that at our next port he will secure for us an equivalent of 100 golds each.

Later that day Dramen talked to the tall elf Essaugh, whose team would have dealt with the ramming-ship but stayed on the Companion to aid in its defense. Dramen offers his scroll scribing services while on the Companion in exchange for supplies. While his own supplies are dwindling Essaugh does supply enough for Dramen to write four scrolls. Essaugh inquires about Syrendros the drow to which Dramen informs the elf that the drow is also a wizard and is his best friend. This intrigued the elf.

Meanwhile Kyras and Syrendros visited the half-orc Hatleck in the brig. The half-orc pirate was still on his hopes of seeing his island home but was not forthcoming with Kyras as to the location of the gold Hatleck wagered his life for. Syrendros asked Hatleck about the recovered bracers enough to identify the magic item. Kyras presses him about his island: the island where he comes from was part of a great island chain connected with the Evening Isles. The Evening Isles broke away and drifted west centuries ago leaving behind a broken series of islands, theirs was a prison island north of Balvadia.

We begin next session later that afternoon.

Rinard Estate in Mailise Tar

Lorish Rinard
“Let’s say, for the sake of argument, that you are right, and these CELESTIALS, are truly benevolent, only with the best of intentions, then that is all I will discover.  If you are wrong, and their best intentions aren’t the choices we would make, you will thank me for having our agent aboard with your good Captain.” Lorish Rinard was speaking rapidly, passionately, “Certainly if there are celestials it implies that there are Infernals? Where are they in their grand scheme?”

Lyeilia sighed frustrated with her father’s cynicism and paranoia, “Then why didn’t you confide in Zilinias instead of planting one of your agents aboard his ship?”
Lyeilia

Lorish snorted at her comment, “Ship? More like a balloon, you would be wise to remember that spies are usually someone in a position of trust.  Zilinias’ current route depends upon good relations with at least one of the saintly scales, I couldn’t chance the good captain or any of his crew revealing our suspicions.”

Lyeilia refrained from responding and left her father in his den with the tea she had brought him.  Wryly she thought to herself how right her father was about spies in position of trust.  It wasn’t Zilinias whose loyalties lay with the dragons, it was his only daughter.

(Murder in Amphail) Conclusion of Tales of the Sword

Balder Ironshield waited in position near a large stone as his drow friend Shar Auvryndar waited in the shadows, hovering among the bows of a large full tree; Hilmar the Ranger circled around what was left of the lizard-man tribe, the creatures who had taken a young lass named Saphina. With the lizard-man King Sudhl dead his remaining subjects retreated back to their queen, a green hag who laird in the foothills of the Sword Mountains called the Scarcrag.

From the shadows of the tree Shar could see the vile green hag presiding over the helpless Saphina. The hag had retained seven of the strongest lizard-men to aid in what looked like a ritual with Saphina as the focus. The ceremony had a ring of familiarity to Shar, like the chakra rituals he had witnessed in his homeland of Ched Nasad.

Hilmar hunkered opposite Balder nearest to the Scarcrag. Hilmar had a habit of constantly drawing his blade only a few centimeters and releasing the sword back into its scabbard during tense situations; for Hilmar it was reassuring, promising a clean quick-draw. Now that he was in position he began his regimen of prayers to his god asking for blessings upon his blades and truth in each swing of his sword.

The winds calmed as the ceremony began, the green hag gesticulating and uttering foul words gave Shar just the distraction he was waiting for; from a tree the drow arcanist unleashed a bright fork of electricity into the lizard-men. Four of the lizard-men died instantly, but the remaining three were merely singed as the drow was careful not to harm Saphina.

Closing the distance Hilmar brought the pommel of this swords together creating a double-weapon spinning the blades about slicing a horrible gash across the hags arm as she feebly attempted to block the deadly weapon. Balder, a little slower, legs pumping, and with his axe high over his head the dwarf trampled the singed lizard-men whilst closing the distance on the hag.

Turning her hatred toward the oncoming dwarf the green hag caught Balder twice across the chest; while her attacks where superficial, her supernatural touch successfully sapped the strength from the veteran dwarf.
Hilmar the Ranger

Elsewhere in the battlefield the three surviving lizard-men came at Hilmar clawing at his sword trying to disarm the ranger.

From the other side of the battlefield Shar called upon his arcanist magic and appeared next to Saphina in an instant, the drow picked her up among the battlefield and moved to the closest area of concealment.

Hilmar abandoned the hag briefly to turn his blades on the lizard-men to cover the drow; killing one of the remaining three. Balder, weakened but not defeated, stepped out of the green hag’s reach and called upon the magic of his axe to enhance his strength defeating the hag’s weakness touch.

Suddenly the hag was gone leaving only the two lizard-men.

“Where did she go Shar?” Hilmar called out knowing Shar could see invisible foes.

“She’s right here.” The drow replied through gritted teeth. This was followed by Saphina’s horrified scream.

Twenty feet from the battlefield Shar and the green hag were fighting over possession of the girl. Green claws met Shar’s force protections while the drow’s prowess with the staff kept the hag off balance; between them was Saphina. Baldar could see his friend could not maintain his frantic defense for very long, eventually Shar would make a mistake against the hag; Balder began to run.

Hilmar finally put down the last two lizard-men just in time to see Baldar run by and bury his axe into the flank of the green hag sending her body fifteen feet away and her twisted life-force into the great beyond.

Amphail
The sun hung low over the southern foothills of the Sword Mountains in the west as The Noble Road lead Balder Ironshield, Hilmar the Ranger, and Shar Auvryndar to Amphail a small, walled city at the convergence of two roads along the River Dessarin. Returning from rescuing Saphina, daughter of Kuldos Roaringhorn from the lizard-men; the three travelers passed through the Noble’s Gate and into the Malanderways- an intersection, marketplace, as well as the location of a statue monument of the great war-stallion Shalarn where Kuldos himself waited.

“I cannot thank you enough Sai Hilmar, words of your valor grows; my daughter is alive because of you and your companions.” Kuldos said through tearful sobs as he embraced his only daughter.

“Aye, just keep your little ones close.” Balder said, his tough dwarven tenor threatened to crack at the outpouring of emotion. “It is a dangerous world full of bile and shi…”

“We are glad that you are once again reunited with your daughter Kuldos,” Hilmar said hesitantly. “now, if we can move on to...” From behind the ranger Shar bumped Hilmar with his staff interrupting his inappropriate line of dialogue.

“Please,” Shar said to Kuldos, “take your daughter home and revel in her safe return. Hilmar, Balder and I will be staying at the Stag-Horned Flagon when you are ready.”

Balder Ironshield
“Stow your weapons gentlemen. Rugar does not allow weapons in his establishment, not after the 'Flagon' was laid waste during the Time of Troubles.” Hilmar advised.

“I see, should not be a problem will it Balder?” Shar said with a wink to his dwarf friend who knew very well it would be a problem.

“Bullocks that was over ten years ago Ranger and I am not for stowing me axe Elf.” Balder said defiantly. “They will have it after I have drawn my last breath.”

“my last breath.” Shar said along with the predictable Balder. “You don’t have to, you just have to conceal it,” The drow finished.

“I said I am not for…” the dwarf began.

“But you do not have to carry so openly?” the ranger asked perplexed.

Seeing the futility of it Shar resorted to spell-use to disguise his dwarven counterpart removing his weapons with an illusion. As the three companions entered the Stag-Horned Flagon an enormous half-orc confronted the companions.
Shar Auvryndar
“Oh no…” Balder said looking for his weapons- seeing none.

“Pleaz leav ur weepons at da door.” The half-orc stated unmoved by the agitated dwarf.

“Do you see any weapons master chief?” Hilmar asked in orcish.

Before any more words were exchanged a wild grinning dwarf in a freshly stained apron walked up. “I’m sorry it’s a formality good sirs. It’s really the only job the big-guy is qualified for.” Laughing the food-stained dwarf continued leading the patrons to a clean table, “I’m Rugar, and this is my place. What’ll you have?”

Soon after a round of much needed libations the three companions were served a satisfying dinner by the gigantic half-orc they met at the door. “I am Denaz,” he grunts, clearly doing his best to emulate Rugar’s courteousness even though he just doesn't seem to have the chops for hospitality; his smile comes across as a snarl.

“Well met Denaz, I am Hilmar. You also serve the food?” the ranger inquired.

“No I break things, but I axed and Rugar sad yes," said the half-orc.

“Thank you for your attention Denaz,” Hilmar said and when the half-orc was gone getting into more trouble, the ranger turned to his companions. “It is getting late, how long do you think before we hear something from Kuldos Roaringhorn?” Hilmar asked Shar and Balder.

“What time is it?” Balder asked, “I never can tell the time when I am on the surface-realm.”

“I know exactly what you mean.” Shar said holding up his thin glass of wine in agreement to Balder’s iron stein.

As they finished the meal, the door to the tavern suddenly burst open, revealing a city guardsman standing in the threshold. The room falls silent as the guard clears his throat.
Callam of the Guard

“Good citizens! Beginning tonight, there will be a curfew enforced within Amphail. The gates will close and any citizen found on the streets after sundown will be arrested. You are each encouraged to make your way home immediately.”

The dwarf Rugar poked his head up over the bar in the back of the room. “What’s all this then?” he asks, a look of concern on his sweat dampened face. “Callam you’d better have a good reason for sending my customers home.”

Callam quietly surveyed the crowd intently for few a moments before turning his attention to the dwarf proprietor. “Some of you have probably already heard but I’m sure there are just as many who have not. There’s a killer on the loose in Amphail. Seven dead so far this week; with the last two victims only just last night which could mean the killer is becoming more bold.”

The guard allowed a brief horrified murmur to pass through the Flagon before he continues. “In a town of this size, there just are not enough people to properly patrol the streets so Lord Alougarr has called for a curfew.” With that, the Callam’s gaze suddenly focuses on Balder, Shar and Hilmar. “We also need good people, strong and able, to help with this.”

As the patrons finished their drinks Callam walked up to the companion’s table planting both his hands flat down between dirty plates looking at each carefully in the eye, hunting for some hint of recognition. Seeing none, he at last speaks.

"I have not seen any of you in Amphail recently," he says slowly and carefully. "You couldn't have committed these murders. I need your help, Amphail needs your help."

Volcano 1 Memory 0

Consciousness, a roaring wave of sound followed by the panicked realization of a need to breathe and the inability to do so.  Swirling water, violently tossing you while random fears run through your mind, such as wondering if the violent waves could break limbs, then a momentous thrust hurtling you into the air, light bombarding you. Violently heaving, spitting up water while desperately trying to take in air, an angry wave deposited you on the island, your last image of the others people around you in similar straights on the beach. Another crashing wave followed by immediate darkness when some of the debris in the water hits you knocking you into unconsciousness.

Each of you have similar jumbled memories of your past after awakening on a debris strewn beach unlike any you have known.  Instead of sand the beach was made up of a layered substance similar to clay that was very hot to the touch.  All of you suffered burns from your time unconscious on the burning beach.  Besides finding each other several other items were scattered about the beach which you recovered.  Soon after your arrival you began to explore the island that you would survive upon for several months before being rescued.

Kyras eventually proclaimed that this island had once been part of either a larger island or island chain and that the unique beach was due to volcanic activity.  Given the heat of the beach, Kyras was certain that there was active volcanic activity nearby also warning everyone of the dangerous exposure to deep earth gases you were all experiencing.  It was Kyras’ theory that the gasses were responsible for your lost memories.

The three mile long island was mostly barren save for the circular stone hill that would lightly glow at night along with the pond at its center. In fact it was that very glow that lead to your rescue when the Sky Captain Zilinias Marks hovered his Skyship The Overwrought Companion over the glowing island to investigate.  The Captain and his wife Teneel Marks took you aboard The Overwrought Companion beginning your two month journey to the Evening Isles.

04/29/15 Tragidore Session 9: Denouement

Midnight
The session began after two weeks waiting out the first winter snow fall since the Time of Troubles. As many copied spells, crafted items, or meditate in personal reflection, Wendell was able to retune the candle of invocation to match his alignment all while feeling the pull of the Wellspring. Arne and Alaric became fast friends as Alaric expressed some interest in helping with what he knew about the scrollsof Nasadra. Alan spent time on the immersion list noting Naergoth Bladelord as a known individual. Cadthronn, in his downtime unlocked the secrets of the Eveningstar Ring.

As the heroes departed two centaurs came to call. Brother Zaganos and Lady Lorraine who are here to take the vile forlarren to the Druid’s Council, this was met with approval. Before beginning the return journey to Tragidore, a six hour affair through the snow shortened by Wendell’s use of mount spells, Alaric wishes to explore the mausoleums in the consecrated cemetery grounds where the heroes found the Nasadra scrolls, here the cleric of Torm and Mystra retold the story of how his soul ended up in Flinn’s possession as well as the reason behind the death of two corpses, one missing an arm. Clues here compared against the Tome of Amulets should offer great details on where the Scarab could be.

On Ashaba River trail the heroes got caught in the cross-hairs of mythic creatures of snow and winter: a wolf pack, two dire wolves, a two-headed wrog and a yeti hunting the last of Flinn’s horrible Caliban experiments.

The Wellspring Monolith
In Tragidore the first order of business was taking Flinn to the constable Carin Taber who took statements from everyone and promised to have innocent folk released now that Flinn’s story is in the open. Also in attendance is Vacek Kordova who has talk with his adventuring brothers Arne and Alan.

The topic was conspiracy in the face of overdue young adventuring torch-runners: the questors for the Everflame. Duncan Kordova, Alan and Arne's father, hopes that torch-runner's tardiness is due to the weather, but seeing how they left almost three weeks ago their prospects for a save return is grim. Furthermore, Vacek warns, Morgan Gundwynd has made it clear he wants to know who was involved in the Everflame roster change that saw Carson Raiserik replaced by Helmo Gundwynd and Celadae Vistani replaced by Mura Gundwynd. Several folk have stepped up to aid in their rescue by magical location or with boots on the ground. Alaric the Valiant states he will devote each of his morning prayers to the missing until they are found. Nevertheless Duncan wants Arne and Alan to report if either of their Raiserik companions take sides in this development.

Also at the Constable was Sir Delmar Truesword of Torm and Peitra Damaken, each for different reasons they each represented unresolved business for the heroes. Peitra thanks the heroes and rewards them with a thousand gold for the bounty on the warerat Zhent Dulvan Kinroth and the promise of future skill training; Delmar was grateful for dispatching the heretics that fled the church during the godsfall with the promise of team-work training and would graciously accepting Alaric the Valiant back into the fold.

On the way back to Trinity Church the heroes stop by Swift Prison so Zadrian could deliver the necessary spell components to his uncle Nar-del while Alan spots Naergoth Bladelord involved in soldier training exercises. Calling the fighter over the heroes discover a man glad to be holding a sword and no longer under Doctor Tiffan’s insane knife. As this conversation is occurring no evil could be discerned but what unsettled Wendell was the fact this man had no soul.

Rhoma Vistani
Finally arriving to Trinity Church to find a burned-out husk- what was left after a dragon attack two weeks ago. Searching through a snow-covered ruin that had obviously been investigated the heroes retreat to Flinn’s former townhouse where they find Anna Pimm, Gideon Raiserik, and Bethany Solerer. At the townhome a heart-broken Anna retold how Luersa- the Red Knight came down from the sky just before the snows to the Church. She did not come for Ariel but for the Key of Irithlium, but when she saw that the tome was gone she took Ariel and destroyed the church. Each surviving incarnate relays the same story, except Gideon who doesn’t speak. They were able to save a few treasures: Liber Praevalida, The Tome of Amulets, and a large magical flail.

With the sun going down Wendell could ignore the soul stones’ pull to the Wellspring. The sky clears, and life holds its breath as Wendell places the soul stones about the Wellspring monolith taking the stones within itself opening a door to the afterlife. Ina who killed herself by plunging herself from the cliff passes-on; Filus Berot the former Mayor of Hopes Hollow who was murdered by a riotous mob passes-on; however Tolger Mann who was killed by his son comes back as an incarnate. Milsa Meet who was murdered by Flinn setting up his end-game comes back as a radiant beauty immediately catching Wendell’s eye and possibly his heart; and finally the two prison guards killed by Shaysera when the daemon broke Dulfan out of prison passes-on, but surprisingly come back with a third before truly passing on. Coming back as an incarnate is Rhoma Vistani of the Golden Watch as well as Zadrian’s mother.

Zadrian's Down Time

In the two weeks of downtime Zadrian is able to complete two new magic items, the second of which requires the assistance of the Wendell Rasierik to complete.  Zadrian is confident the priest will provide his assistance because the item will be given to Wendell when it is finished. Not only do the items reflect our experiences but I hope they enhance our reputation in Tragidore for handling supernatural problems.  We ain't afraid of no ghosts.

Gloves, Ghostvision (2 Days to Create)
Aura faint divination and evocation; CL 5th Slot hands; Price 4,000 gp; Weight —

DESCRIPTION
These gloves are made of pale gray silk; each is adorned with an embroidered silver eye on the back.
Once per day the wearer may activate them, as a standard action, by bowing her head and pressing her hands to her eyes. The embroidered silver eyes flare and open, and when the wearer lowers her hands, deep pools of swirling gray mist hide her own eyes and allow her to more clearly see the restless dead for the next 10 rounds. While active, ghostvision gloves grant the following effects.

The wearer can see all undead within 60 feet clearly, including ethereal undead and incorporeal undead hiding in objects or walls to a depth of 5 feet.
If the wearer has the channel positive energy class ability, she may expend one use of channeled positive energy to make a ranged touch attack against one undead creature within channel range. If the ranged touch attack hits, she rolls channel energy damage against that target (affecting no other creatures), except she rolls d12s instead of d6s.
While the gloves are active, constructs and living opponents treat the wearer as blind.

04/22/15 Tragidore Session 8: Defeating the Erodaemon and Instrducing a Cleric of Two Gods

Annabeth
The session began in the midst of combat between the five heroes of Tragidore against Annabeth, Shaysera, and Taergan Flinn. The battle raged through the alchemy lab, Annabeth’s gruesome lair, the prison dungeon, as well as a secret passage that linked the lower-level with the spiked-pit trap from the entrance above. While each foe proved to be elusive, summoning aid or calling upon bear-constructs, it was only after the daemons were destroyed and Taergan was given nowhere to run did the alchemist surrender.

In the after math of the battle both Branda and Igneous were released while Taergan was locked up waiting to be extradited to Tragidore for his crimes. But the Tulles were not the only ones remanded to the dungeons; two Caliban experiments (who were later put down) and a human cleric who, after receiving healing, also aided in the fight against Taergan and his accomplices.
Alaric the Valiant

The man’s name was Alaric, a man out of time; he is the only surviving member of ‘the Valiant’ a military unit of clerics highly trained in arcane magic during the Weeping War centuries ago. Many of his unit fell to Annabeth’s lies becoming abandoned ones, but Alaric held to his faith and resisted only to have his soul stolen into a gemstone. Over the untold years his soul was bartered and traded but never consumed until on the night the Time of Troublesended and the old gods and new gods took their respective places in the planes- the soul of Alaric the Valiant was freed from his faceted prison and brought back as an incarnate. This turn of events incensed Annabeth but intrigued Taergan who began his experiments on altering the Caliban’s physicality using Alaric in his twisted processes.

Meanwhile Branda and Igneous relay their time in Taergan’s dungeons and just how much the alchemist had lost his way listening to the lies of the erodaemon, as well as what they understand of the rest of Bitter Manor. Taergan, his apprentices, and the daemons only occupied the first and lower levels. The remaining floors were occupied by other sinister entities. However the battle was harrowing and exhaustive and necessitated a full-nights rest. The rest period was uneventful however faint child-like cries echoes through the old manor house, and upon waking the heroes notice it has started to snow.

Refreshed and leveled up, the heroes explored the remaining rooms and secret passages of the first floor then to the second level to find a library, display room, and finally a burned-out master bedroom. Several clues led to a conclusion that dragon-fire was the cause, given the dragon fear and thundering roar heard during the battle with Taergan the previous day. Found among the burned-out remains were blackened draconic iconography as well as the immersion list with a few familiar names among unknowns.

As snow continued to fall, on the third floor the heroes encountered attic whisperers and Caitrin Deveraux another echo of a woman damned because of Annabeth’s lies. After defeating the Bitter Manor dinizens it was decided to hold up until the snow storm broke before making the slow trek back to Tragidore. There was the division of treasure ending with Cadthronn getting the next first pick of loot. We begin next session after a two-week period of downtime with a firm series of knocks at the door.
